Jesus Tomb Documentary

Says Scholar Whose Work Was Used in the Upcoming Jesus Tomb Documentary: "I think it's completely mishandled. I am angry."

From Jesus Tomb Documentary, Posted by Christopher Mims

March 2, 2007

In researching our special report on the upcoming Jesus Tomb documentary, fronted by James Cameron (of Titanic fame), I encountered more than a few angry scholars and archaeologists.

Of special note was Tal Ilan, whose Lexicon of Jewish Names was essential to the statistical calculation made by Andrey Feuerverger, the U. of Toronto professor of statistics and mathematics who is quoted in the documentary as saying that the odds that any family other than that of the historical Jesus family would have the same names as that family, and be buried in the Tomb the documentary covers, are 600 to 1. In other words, that number argues, the odds are slim that this isn't the tomb of Jesus.

You'd be forgiven for finding such claims far-fetched, and with the exception of the historian, James Tabor, who was consulted for the film, the professionals in the field appear to find these claims no less incredible.

In an interview I conducted this morning, the scholar Tal Ilan, without whose work these calculations would have been impossible, expressed outrage over the film and its use of her work--she's the source of the quotation in the headline of this post.

Jodi Magness, a professor of archaeology and Jewish history of that period at UNC Chapel Hill, had this to say in an interview conducted yesterday:

Let me tell you what I think. So first of all if you're writing for Scientific American, so it's important to point out that this debate is taking place in a most unscientific of manners.

Archaeology is a scientific and academic discipline and there are proper fora for these discussions--if you're a scholar and you have something you want to present to the larger world, there are proper ways of doing that, specifically publishing papers in peer reviewed journals or at meetings, so your colleageus can respond to it.

If after that you can go ahead and announce that and people can say "Well I've responded to this," then that's fine. But I've been slammed with [interviews for] this now - it was announced in the public media.

I'm reacting to something that has not been published or peer reviewed and I haven't even seen the film - the entire way this has been done has been an injustice to the entire discipline and also to the public.

I think it's a very important point to make - that this is almost a wikipedia form of scholarship. They're presenting it or setting it up as though we have a discovery and you can react and it's all legitimate and valid which it's not.

Disenfranchisement and the lies of the left

From Felon Disenfranchisement: Purging the Minority Vote:

… we take a look at how former felons - many of them African American Democrats - were wrongly included on a Florida state list of voters to be purged.

Florida is one of seven states that does not automatically restore civil rights to felons after they have served their prison sentences. And regaining the right to vote can be a long and difficult process.

“…can be a long and difficult process”

Many aspects of life require long and difficult processes. From tracking a series of incorrectly processed claims at your place of employment to passing a driver’s license test. It’s called personal responsibility and ambition.

The law caused hundreds or possibly thousands of votes to be discounted in the 2000 election because of errors in a state purge list of former felons.

The law caused…? Because of errors… ? No, there were no errors…

It is the responsibility of the prior felon to make sure their rights are restored through the courts within the time frame outlined by the law.

Becky Steele, Director of the American Civil Liberties Union West Central Florida Office: …You imposed these additional requirements on people who are eligible voters. They've gone through all of the hoops that they need and spent a long, arduous process getting their rights restored, and now because of a technicality in the timing, you're going to strike them from the voter rolls….

There were no errors, it was those darn technicalities. Tell me, how many criminal defense lawyers get their clients off because of those darn technicalities?

Here, once again we see the left’s defense for those who display a lack of personal responsibility.

Is that the entirety of it? Is the ACLU defending these individuals out of compassion regardless of the obvious lack of personal responsibility on behalf of the convicted felons (who have served their time)?

Is the ACLU really that altruistic?

Maybe it’s just a lack of good old common sense, they are letting their compassionate bleeding hearts think for them.

Do not for a second believe the lawyers of the ACLU are want for common sense. They are intelligently pursuing a focused goal indeed.

Who is more likely to research and educate themselves in the intricacies of the actual goal of the Democrat left? Is it felons and the poor? No, it is freedom loving conservative capitalists, the educated.

Who then, do the Democrat left go after for votes? Surely it is not the educated conservative capitalists.

Can you see the divergence? The poor and disenfranchised are being used.

The poor are not poor because “the man” keeps them down. That’s a lie put into their heads by their “civil rights leaders”. Isn’t that right Mr. Jackson, Mr. Sharpton? They are being kept down because they buy into their own “leaders” hateful racist rhetoric. Those who make excuse after excuse while blaming everything and everyone while refusing to consistently focus on the root of the problem.

Personal responsibility

They are poor because of decisions they make in their own lives. They are felons because of decisions they made in their lives. They didn’t get their voting rights re-established because they didn’t get the proper legal procedures completed on time.

Is this a blame game?

“There are some things my Tribe is not good at, at all. My Tribe doesn’t make excuses. My Tribe will analyze failure and assign blame, but that is to make sure that we do better next time…” from Tribes.

People are different. Some are ambitious and pursue educations and therefore typically acquire good paying jobs. Others don’t and consequently do not acquire good paying jobs. Some were bullies in their youth, skipped school and grew up to be thugs and criminals in their adulthood. Still others grew up in an abusive family yet, are not abusive in their adulthood. Why?

Because of their firm, cognitive grip on personal responsibility.

Is it that simple?

My father raised me to believe that there is no such thing as an accident and really, there isn’t. If you present me with an “accident”, with sufficient background and other pertinent information, I can show you where, in the chain of events, somebody somewhere made a mistake that directly contributed to the “accident”. Somewhere a mistake was made, whether it is operator error in a vehicle crash or poor quality management when inspecting the construction of the brake system installed on that vehicle that failed. Somebody somewhere is responsible for that accident. Is it always beneficial to investigate so deep to lay blame? The answer to that depends on the circumstances.

The poor and the disenfranchised… typically uneducated in history and current events, events behind the headlines of the drivel they are spoon fed by the media.

Do I know about the atrocities being committed by big oil companies around the world in the name of capitalism? Of course I do. Am I iffy about why we are in Iraq? Bush, Cheney, Halliburton oil… of course I am but…

The uneducated poor and disenfranchised vote is why the communist, founded ACLU runs to their rescue. Not in the name of civil liberties but simply for votes. You are foolish if you actually believe it is out of compassion. It is for the votes for the Democrat left, the votes of those who are not educated in the facts of the socialist/communist goal of the left.

Do you think many of those “disenfranchised” are voting for the “evil” conservatives?

Are the leftist Democrat’s in positions of governmental power associated with socialism/communism? Damn right they are. The facts are undeniable if you do the research.

I was once asked if I actually believed that Republicans cared about me as an individual. I am not living in fantasy land. I know that if I stood in the way of President Bush and Vice President Cheney’s oil fortunes I would just be another statistic. I know what greed can do. But, at least they are capitalists. That spells freedom a whole heck of a lot better than does socialist/communist. It could be considered the lesser of two evils.

In my educated opinion however, capitalism is not necessarily evil. It can of course be used for evil if it is abused as can anything. Love… religion… the push by doctors for profit for prescription drugs, you name it. But, you name me ONE socialist/communist country whose people are more free than capitalist America’s people… just one… you can’t do it.

Most conservative talk show hosts won’t address this truth. Michael Savage is about the only conservative talk show host who has the intestinal fortitude to expose the enemy within and articulate the truth of it in all of its ugly reality.

Head of the Human Genome Project – A Christian

From: The believer

Francis Collins -- head of the Human Genome Project -- discusses his conversion to evangelical Christianity, why scientists do not need to be atheists, and what C.S. Lewis has to do with it
.

As the longtime head of the Human Genome Project, Francis Collins is one of America's most visible scientists. He holds impeccable scientific credentials -- a medical degree as well as a Ph.D. in physics -- and has established a distinguished track record as a gene hunter. He's also an evangelical Christian, someone who has no qualms about professing his belief in miracles or seeing God's hand behind all of creation.
….
"The God of the Bible is also the God of the genome," he writes. "He can be worshiped in the cathedral or in the laboratory."

I became an atheist because as a graduate student studying quantum physics, life seemed to be reducible to second-order differential equations. Mathematics, chemistry and physics had it all. And I didn't see any need to go beyond that. Frankly, I was at a point in my young life where it was convenient for me to not have to deal with a God. I kind of liked being in charge myself. But then I went to medical school, and I watched people who were suffering from terrible diseases. And one of my patients, after telling me about her faith and how it supported her through her terrible heart pain, turned to me and said, "What about you? What do you believe?" And I stuttered and stammered and felt the color rise in my face, and said, "Well, I don't think I believe in anything." But it suddenly seemed like a very thin answer. And that was unsettling. I was a scientist who was supposed to draw conclusions from the evidence and I realized at that moment that I'd never really looked at the evidence for and against the possibility of God.

Read it all and God bless!!

The Brick Wall

I had originally posted this Monday, January 15, 2007. I pulled it recently due to the possibility that I may have made some mistakes and posted it too hastily. Happily upon further review, that’s not the case. Here it is again in its all to lengthy glory! (With original comments) Sorry to those of you who had linked to the original.

Most important, attached at the bottom is Tribes by Bill over at Ejectejecteject.com

Dispensing with it (the doctrine of hegemony) should be at the top of our agenda. It may be more important than tactics, more important than strategy, more important than anything that happens overseas, since without it being accomplished, nothing else can possibly work.

From: Breaking the Hold of Hegemonist Doctrine by J.R. Dunn

The last paragraph of J.R. Dunn’s essay outlines one of the most important issues in the entire history of mankind. It has been declared in a multitude of ways by various voices throughout history and on many different conservative blogs, articles and essays today. It seems like now more than ever we can all clearly see the hegemonist’s who erect the brick wall standing against the advancement of our civilizations throughout history.

The condemnation of the hegmonist doctrine is not declared by leftists, liberals and progressives because this doctrine is their own. They are the brick wall builders. They posses the illogical, history ignoring unstable thought processes fueling their insane perspectives. The kind of childish insanity that causes them to justify their insane positions with inane comments like “Well, we put Saddam in power to begin with.”

History has always been populated by the appeasers, nay-sayers and self haters. Nothing that conservatives and liberals are doing or saying today is really any different than that which has been done or said in the thousands of years past. There have always been men and women who are willing to step up and lead people or follow leaders, no matter how ugly the circumstances may be. They do what must be done in support of their “tribe”. Conversely there have always been those individuals with great “new” ideas consisting of much talk and little action, those who would rather blame their tribe for all of the woes of the world than fight for their own tribe. They are the traitors to nations, the worm tongues. They are those who due to their inability to stand by their very nation are completely untrustworthy. If I can’t trust you to support our home then I sure as he!! can’t trust you to be my friend, if I can’t trust you, you are not worth the air you breath.

Unless an individual’s life’s experience and wisdom gained has erased the immature liberal view of their innocent youth, debate with those who subscribe to the hegmonist doctrine is usually futile. Debate with mental instability typically is. When logic and truth is indisputable yet is still disputed, there is no alternative other than shoving them aside in the name of progress.

Liberal pacifists and appeasers are the reason the United States did not enter WWI until our allies were struggling for their lives. Regardless of the blockades, a nation should always stand by her allies. If it does not, it won’t have any allies to stand by.

Liberal pacifists and appeasers are the reason the United States did not enter WWII until Germany, Italy and Japan had already wreaked massive casualties on our allies.

Liberal pacifists and appeasers are the reason the United States abandoned their South Vietnamese allies in Vietnam.

Liberal pacifists and appeasers are the reason we abandoned the hundreds of thousands of allies in Somalia.

Liberal pacifists and appeasers are the reason we have barbarian hoards within our gates and can do nothing about it.

It is the liberal ideology that directly caused the fall of Rome. It is the ideology of hatred for the haves by the have-nots. They are those individuals who blame those others who have the ambition and intelligence to further their lives. They blame them for their own inadequacies and bad decisions in life.

Liberal Democrat leadership on the state and city level is the reason busses were left to be flooded instead of being used to evacuate the people of New Orleans. This is but one item in a list of inept decisions made by the city and state Democrat leadership that botched the entire rescue effort. Liberal media asked “Did President Bush know how devastating Hurricane Katrina was going to be?” in big front page headlines. Yes, he did, as did about 99.9% of the rest of the nation at least an entire week before it occurred.

Liberal voters of Democratic Medicare welfare state ideals are the reason their own tribe members turned on each other and the emergency workers and police sent to assist them. Have you ever try to cook a looted widescreen TV? You can’t do it. The problem wasn’t with President Bush, it was the quality of the people involved both on the street level and the immediate state and city governmental level.

The liberal welfare state criminals that poured out of New Orleans and were subsequently hosted by surrounding cities are the reason the crime rates dropped in New Orleans and rose drastically in their host cities.

Liberal civil rights racists are the reason people are asking “where are the outcries of humanity for the people snowed in and facing devastating livestock losses in the Midwest?” Where is your support for, as you perceive them to be, the white Christians in the Midwest Mr. Lee, Mr. Snipes, Mr. Sharpton and Mr. Jackson? Where is your concern for them? You too busy standing for the Urban Agenda Al? Does that agenda include the white folk Al?

Liberals are the reason abortion, homosexual marriage and a variety of other previously condemned behavior is being furthered in the name of The Constitution where there is ABSOLUTELY NO support for these issues yet, the liberal left fights for the ban of gun possession even though that is explicitly and in no uncertain terms allowed by our Constitution.

We are all taught to know our enemies and the enemy of goodness, decency and the progress of the human race throughout human history has always been those of the liberal mindset in whatever form they happen to take during their respective era. They are the Bolsheviks and the Mao’s and Khmer Rouge. The progressives are the leftist socialist states that oppress and murder dissenters, the fighters and friends of freedom. Sadly they are also those who in their ignorance, see the greener grass on the other side only to discover it is only made greener because of the blood of their friends and loved ones. I have many “ignorant” liberal friends and they don’t know me as the sort who would be hunted and at the very least, jailed in a communist nation but, that is who I am.

I have seen many great thinkers and writers indicating that this nation is teetering on the edge of civil war. Many think that would never happen and probably rightfully so, we all like to think we are all Americans but we are not. The leftist’s who have been constantly changing America through their socialist/communist agenda are enemies of this nation and instigators of the coming war between Americans and liberals living in America.

To rid ourselves of the hegemonist’s we must confront the problem at its root. That root is the insanity that is liberalism, progressivism or whichever new “ism” they give themselves. The flavor of the week doesn’t change the bitter taste of the left.

They are those who will not hesitate to play the race card even when it requires a twisting of logic and words in a disturbingly Freudian manner, exposing their true thoughts, feelings and intentions which their opponent had never fathomed.

They are those who will not hesitate to bite the hand that feeds them then, turn around and blame that hand for not bailing them out of the trouble they get themselves in.

They are those who wish to enjoy the freedoms of our great nation yet condemn the actions required to maintain those freedoms, they refuse to do their part in our military.

They are those who, if they do join the military, when confronted with the reality of what is required of them will, in their cowardice claim “conscientious objector” status.

They are those who rally and fight for the life of the individual who dealt drugs, gang raped women, murdered rivals and innocents alike and created one of the nations most violent street gangs yet, they believe it’s a woman’s right to freely kill babies because her life might be inconvenienced by having to take care of that child. I am aware of the instances, rape among them, when abortion might be justified although I cannot justify even that. The innocent baby didn’t rape anyone, that’s a jury I couldn’t sit on.

They are those who fight against oil drilling and or pipeline building on American soil yet scream when we must secure oil supplies in the Middle East. They condemn our oil consumption but continue to use vehicles and the other niceties that require oil, the current life’s blood of our nation. They are also those who continue to complain that alternative energy sources such as giant wind powered generators are killing birds. They can never be pleased. Their thirst for adversity is insatiable.

They are the Ciro Rodriguez’s and those who voted him into congress.

Take a drive across America and you will see that many of the oldest buildings in America are not law offices or news agencies or social rights councils, believe it or not they are not even sexually depraved gay bars and clubs either, they are Christian Churches.

For a clear explanation of my references to “tribes” and an overall OUTSTANDING essay, I strongly advise you read Tribes over at EjectEjectEject.

You know… let’s make it simple, here is Tribes from Bill:

TRIBES

I’m generally an optimist, and it’s been my pleasure to be able to write mostly about the good and the noble things in our lives. But the events in the Gulf – of Mexico – have brought to a head a summer and a year that has been getting progressively uglier and more painful to watch.

Who can not see the way the country has changed, not since 9/11, but before that – since the 2000 election? Who cannot feel the split, the division, that rips like a shredding sail on a broken mast, canvas tearing like the sound of musketry, as the rigging falls to the deck?

This breaks my heart. It just breaks my heart into little pieces. I have said less and less as I see more and more, because deep in my core I still don’t want to believe that some Americans could willfully and consistently do such destructive things out of such petty and base motivations, things which in time will make the horrors of New Orleans look like a flea circus in a small tent, with the much larger carnival raging unseen in the background.

I’ve taken sides in these essays, obviously – that’s what I do. But I have never, until now, felt the need to take the gloves off and really let fly. I always feared I would regret it, later. I still do. Only now, I fear I will regret it worse if I do not.

So now we must look at Tribes.

Now please pay attention to this, because I’m not going to state it again, and if you don’t hear it now much mischief will follow:

I believe that the human animal – the raw material of our physical bodies – is essentially interchangeable. By this I mean that I could take the children of Fallujah and turn them all into Astronauts, convert Jewish babies into fanatical, mass-murdering SS guards, and shake a generation of the poorest Voodoo-worshippers in Haiti into a cadre of top-flight nuclear physicists, chemical engineers and computer scientists.

Race has nothing to do with this – precisely nothing. The mobs of murdering Hutus and swarms of slaughtering Serbs are as different racially as it is possible to be, and they are cut from precisely the same cloth.

I know this is so because there have been murdering scumbags of every stripe and color in the long history of the human race – which is depressing – and that these animals, at any given time, represent only a small percentage of the majority of people, also of every stripe and color – which is not. There is no corner on virtue, and no outpost of depravity. Human hearts are indistinguishable and interchangeable. Anyone who claims otherwise is, without further argument or statements necessary, a complete God-damned idiot.

Now, with that said – have we all heard that loud and clear? – there are light-years of difference in how various Tribes will behave.

Only a few minutes ago, I had the delightful opportunity to read the comment of a fellow who said he wished that white, middle-class, racist, conservative %#$@suckers like myself could have been herded into the Superdome Concentration Camp to see how much we like it. Absent, of course, was the fundamental truth of what he plainly does not have the eyes or the imagination to see, namely, that if the Superdome had been filled with white, middle-class, racist, conservative %#$@suckers like myself, it would not have been a refinery of horror, but rather a citadel of hope and order and restraint and compassion.

That has nothing to do with me being white. If the blacks and Hispanics and Jews and gays that I work with and associate with were there with me, it would have been that much better. That’s because the people I associate with – my Tribe – consists not of blacks and whites and gays and Hispanics and Asians, but of individuals who do not rape, murder, or steal. My Tribe consists of people who know that sometimes bad things happen, and that these instances are opportunities to show ourselves what we are made of. My people go into burning buildings. My Tribe consists of organizers and self-starters, proud and self-reliant people who do not need to be told what to do in a crisis. My Tribe is not fearless; they are something better. They are courageous. My Tribe is honorable, and decent, and kind, and inventive. My Tribe knows how to give orders, and how to follow them. My Tribe knows enough about how the world works to figure out ways to boil water, ration food, repair structures, build and maintain makeshift latrines, and care for the wounded and the dead with respect and compassion.

There are some things my Tribe is not good at at all. My Tribe doesn’t make excuses. My Tribe will analyze failure and assign blame, but that is to make sure that we do better next time, and we never, ever waste valuable energy and time doing so while people are still in danger. My Tribe says, and in their heart completely believes that it’s the other guy that’s the hero. My Tribe does not believe that a single Man can cause, prevent or steer Hurricanes, and my Tribe does not and has never made someone else responsible for their own safety, and that of their loved ones.

My Tribe doesn’t fire on people risking their lives, coming to help us. My Tribe doesn’t curse such people because they arrived on Day Four, when we felt they should have been here before breakfast on Day One. We are grateful, not to say indebted, that they have come at all. My Tribe can’t eat Nike’s and we don’t know how to feed seven by boiling a wide-screen TV. My Tribe doesn’t give a sweet God Damn about what color the looters are, or what color the rescuers are, because we can plainly see before our very eyes that both those Tribes have colors enough to cover everyone in glory or in shame. My Tribe doesn’t see black and white skins. My Tribe only sees black and white hats, and the hat we choose to wear is the most personal decision we can make.

That’s the other thing, too – the most important thing. My Tribe thinks that while you are born into a Tribe, you do not have to stay there. Good people can join bad Tribes, and bad people can choose good ones. My Tribe thinks you choose your Tribe. That, more than anything, is what makes my Tribe unique.

I am so utterly and unabashedly proud of my Tribe, that my words haunt and mock me for their pale weakness and shameful inadequacy.

Membership in my Tribe is not free.

I have been the first person at four accident scenes. I have crawled into overturned cars on country roads, cars whose wheels were still spinning, and gone on hands and knees through broken glass to comfort strangers while uniformed policemen stood around outside and told jokes. I have put my triple-knit polyester chauffeur’s blazer over an elderly black woman hit by a bus and used my belt as a tourniquet to slow the dark spread of blood widening beneath her badly broken leg, and been amazed, every time, at how the sounds of approaching sirens seems to come almost before I have time to hold her hand and tell her she’s gonna be just fine.

I say this not to glorify myself – on the contrary. I am embarrassed to write such things. I am a pampered and lazy Hollywood TV editor who gets paid insane sums of money to do a cake job while much better people than me do this every day, for peanuts. There is nothing remotely heroic about me. I simply do what millions and millions and millions of my fellow Americans do every day, in ways large and small. They step up to the plate, not because they want to be heroes, but because someone has to do it. These simple people donate their time, their money, their food, their cars and their houses every single day, and ask and expect nothing in return, while a few miles away from me in Brentwood millionaire movie stars throw fabulous parties to remind each other how swell they are, then waltz out into their chauffeured limos with their tens or hundreds of millions of dollars firmly in place, feeling good that they had the chance to really make a difference by raising awareness of whichever cause they feel will most make up for their feelings of inadequacy and guilt by showing both themselves and us just how much better people they really are.

What kind of money could Barbra and Martin and Tim and Susan and Gwenneth and George and Steven and Viggo and Linda and Harvey and Brad and Angelina and Ben and all the rest – how much could they really put together, if they actually believed what they say – not to mention the cash available to the Malodorous Michigan Manatee of Mendacity? What kind of check could they write? $500 million would be less than 10% of every outspoken celebrities' combined wealth. That money could take every poor person in LA county and put them into much nicer apartments than the one I live in. They could, at a stroke, shame the President, the Congress, and the evil NeoCon warmongers by putting every displaced person in New Orleans in a Marriott for a year. They claim this is the kind of better human they have evolved into.

Why don’t they do it?

They don’t do it because that Tribe worships the golden statue of themselves, that’s why. A church-going pharmacist in Des Moines would be ashamed of herself for giving only 10% of her modest salary. But Sean Penn can take himself, an entourage and a personal photographer – that’s three or four people in a four-person boat – and show us all how incredibly big and down-home he is by sailing off a few feet to rescue people, before the boat sinks from the incompetence of failing to put in the drainage plug. He wore a very nice white flak vest, instead of the passé orange life preserver, because getting shot at is a lot more macho looking, if a million or so times less likely, than drowning because you went out into the water with a lead vest rather than a life vest. It’s a scene in the trailer that runs incessantly in their heads: In a world run by evil corporations, a rebel who plays by his own rules starts a deadly game of cat and mouse with an all-powerful conspiracy in this searing portrait of extraordinary courage in a life under siege, starring…me!

I was actually ready to publicly commend the guy, until I heard about the personal photographer. If he wanted to help people – and that’s all – he could have paid for that boat, and a few hundred others, manned them with reasonably competent recreational boaters, and sent out a flotilla. But no. It’s not about having people saved. It’s about something else entirely. It’s about having people saved by Sean Penn. That’s when I realized that whether it’s the Murderous Regime in Iraq, or the Murderous Regime in Iran, or the Murderous Storm in Louisiana…ultimately, it’s all about Sean Penn. Peace Be Upon Him.

But thank God we have people like him, and the rest of that vain, useless, smug, self-centered, incompetent, insecure and thoroughly broken Tribe to point out the error of our ways.

I hate those sons of )$&%*’s with all of my heart. And the fact that so much of our society has come to worship these shallow, egomaniacal dolts says a lot about where we are, and none of it is good.

Now this next point is so obvious, so simple and so self-evident that there is no way the deep thinkers of the far left will possibly be able to see it.

Let’s not talk about Black and White tribes… I know too many pathetic, hateful, racists and more decent, capable and kind people of both colors for that to make any sense at all. Do you not? Do you not know corrupt, ignorant, violent people, both black and white, to cure you of this elementary idiocy? Have you not met and talked and laughed with people who were funny, decent, upright, honest and honorable of every shade so that the very idea of racial politics should just seem like a desperate and divisive and just plain evil tactic to hold power?

If such a thing is not self-evident to you, please get off my property. Right now. I should tell you I own a gun and I know how to use it. I assure you that the pleasure I would take in shooting you would be temporary, minimal, and deeply regretted later.

Now, for the rest of you, let’s get past Republican and Democrat, Red and Blue, too. Let’s talk about these two Tribes: Pink, the color of bunny ears, and Grey, the color of a mechanical pencil lead.

I live in both worlds. In entertainment, everything is Pink, the color of Angelyne’s Stingray – it’s exciting and dynamic and glamorous. I’m also a pilot, and I know honest-to-God rocket scientists, and combat flight crews and Special Ops guys -- stone-cold Grey, all of them -- and am proud and deeply honored to call them my friends.

The Pink Tribe is all about feeling good: feeling good about yourself! Sexually, emotionally, artistically – nothing is off limits, nothing is forbidden, convention is fossilized insanity and everybody gets to do their own thing without regard to consequences, reality, or natural law. We all have our own reality – one small personal reality is called “science,” say – and we Make Our Own Luck and we Visualize Good Things and There Are No Coincidences and Everything Happens for a Reason and You Can Be Whatever You Want to Be and we all have Special Psychic Powers and if something Bad should happen it’s because Someone Bad Made It Happen. A Spell, perhaps.

The Pink Tribe motto, in fact, is the ultimate Zen Koan, the sound of one hand clapping: EVERYBODY IS SPECIAL.

Then, in the other corner, there is the Grey Tribe – the grey of reinforced concrete. This is a Tribe where emotion is repressed because Emotion Clouds Judgment. This is the world of Quadratic Equations and Stress Risers and Loads Torsional, Compressive and Tensile, a place where Reality Can Ruin Your Best Day, the place where Murphy mercilessly picks off the Weak and the Incompetent, where the Speed Limit is 186,282.36 miles per second, where every bridge has a Failure Load and levees come in 50 year, 100 year and 1000 Year Flood Flavors.

The Grey Tribe motto is, near as I can tell, THINGS BREAK SOMETIMES AND PLEASE DON’T LET IT BE MY BRIDGE.

Now, let’s do a little free associating, just to take the model for a test spin:

I’m going to throw out some names, and you tell me whether you think they are Pink or Grey? Okay? Ready?

Donald Rumsfield.
Al Sharpton.
Bill Clinton.
Ted Kennedy.
George W. Bush.
Condoleeza Rice.

Okay, my score is Grey, Pink, Pink, Pink, Grey and Grey. Easy, right? Dems = Pink, Repubs = Grey. Now how about these?

John Kennedy
Abraham Lincoln
Ronald Reagan
Franklin Roosevelt

These are more interesting, because there is something very Pink, something warm and emotional and comforting about them. Put all four of them at a dinner table (which I would trade the rest of my life to serve ice water for) and I think you would see four warm, gentle, bright and genuinely funny men.

Now, think:

Cuban Missile Crisis
Fredericksburg
Reykjavik
Pearl Harbor

I get solid Grey scores here. What about you? I get tough, hard-nosed, capable, competent, confident men facing evil straight in the eye and not backing down. (And anyone who even thinks about selling short Reykjavik as a symbol for those eight years of steadfast resolution should see my gun warning, above).

Also, I see two Democrats and two Republicans. Opposing parties. Same Tribe.

Now, when things are going swimmingly, when the End of History has arrived, as it did in the 90’s, having a Pink president (careful!) is no big deal. In fact, it’s a downright advantage. He can be a goodwill ambassador, and charm the pants (you heard me!) off of foreign dignitaries and have everyone cooing and gushing about how swell Americans are once the fascists are out of power.

Now, unfortunately for Pink Power, there remain in the world a few people not impressed by this attitude.

Not long ago, National Geographic ran a really first-rate, 4-hour documentary called INSIDE 9/11, as perfect an example as you could possibly want of the power of a real documentary to enlighten and inform without taking sides.

Watching it was horrible, especially for people like me, because we feel like if we had only known what was going on we could have done something about it.

A few weeks ago, a reader was kind enough to send me a link about a theory and seminar called The Bulletproof Mind, written by Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman. Just the small blurb I read enlarged my mental horizon by an order of magnitude, because it clarified many of the confusing things I have been feeling as so much of the country plunges deeper into irresponsibility, fantasy, bitterness and delusion.

I excerpt a small portion of it here, without permission, in the hope that those of you who are serious about surviving things like Katrina will go here and buy it.

Lt. Colonel Grossman, a far better man than me, a man who does things I only talk about, writes in his introduction to The Bulletproof Mind:

One Vietnam veteran, an old retired colonel, once said this to me: "Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident."

This is true. Remember, the murder rate is six per 100,000 per year, and the aggravated assault rate is four per 1,000 per year. What this means is that the vast majority of Americans are not inclined to hurt one another.

Some estimates say that two million Americans are victims of violent crimes every year, a tragic, staggering number, perhaps an all-time record rate of violent crime. But there are almost 300 million total Americans, which means that the odds of being a victim of violent crime is considerably less than one in a hundred on any given year. Furthermore, since many violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, the actual number of violent citizens is considerably less than two million.

Thus there is a paradox, and we must grasp both ends of the situation: We may well be in the most violent times in history, but violence is still remarkably rare. This is because most citizens are kind, decent people who are not capable of hurting each other, except by accident or under extreme provocation. They are sheep.

I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me it is like the pretty, blue robin's egg. Inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard blue shell. Police officers, soldiers and other warriors are like that shell, and someday the civilization they protect will grow into something wonderful. For now, though, they need warriors to protect them from the predators.

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf." Or, as a sign in one California law enforcement agency put it, "We intimidate those who intimidate others."

If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen: a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath--a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? Then you are a sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.

He continues:

Let me expand on this old soldier's excellent model of the sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. We know that the sheep live in denial; that is what makes them sheep. They do not want to believe that there is evil in the world. They can accept the fact that fires can happen, which is why they want fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, fire alarms and fire exits throughout their kids' schools. But many of them are outraged at the idea of putting an armed police officer in their kid's school. Our children are dozens of times more likely to be killed, and thousands of times more likely to be seriously injured, by school violence than by school fires, but the sheep's only response to the possibility of violence is denial. The idea of someone coming to kill or harm their children is just too hard, so they choose the path of denial.

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog that intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.

Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn't tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, "Baa." Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog. As Kipling said in his poem about "Tommy" the British soldier:

While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that,
an' "Tommy, fall be'ind,"
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir,"
when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys,
there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir,"
when there's trouble in the wind.

Understand that there is nothing morally superior about being a sheepdog; it is just what you choose to be. Also understand that a sheepdog is a funny critter: He is always sniffing around out on the perimeter, checking the breeze, barking at things that go bump in the night, and yearning for a righteous battle. That is, the young sheepdogs yearn for a righteous battle. The old sheepdogs are a little older and wiser, but they move to the sound of the guns when needed right along with the young ones.

Here is how the sheep and the sheepdog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the sheepdog lives for that day. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, "Thank God I wasn't on one of those planes." The sheepdogs, the warriors, said, "Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference." When you are truly transformed into a warrior and have truly invested yourself into warriorhood, you want to be there. You want to be able to make a difference.

While there is nothing morally superior about the sheepdog, the warrior, he does have one real advantage -- only one. He is able to survive and thrive in an environment that destroys 98 percent of the population.

[Emphasis mine – BW]

And that is how I felt watching every minute of that 4 hour documentary.

I could have done something.

If I had known, if I had only known, I could have run over that evil, sick son of a #$%#! Mohammed Atta in the parking lot. I could have been on one of those airplanes. They only had box cutters, for the love of God! Those seat cushions have straps on the back for floatation; they’d make excellent shields against a goddam two inch blade. Ladies, listen carefully…when I say go, you throw your shoes and cell phones and these little liquor bottles and cushions and whatever you can, just throw them right in the face of these &$^@suckers and guys, when we get up there we need to kill them, fast, just break their &$%ing necks, just stomp on their heads until they are dead, because I know how to land a blessed airplane and…and…

Now of course, right at this moment there are people without honor or courage who read that and think this is one big jerk-off chickenhawk fantasy and on some level I guess it is. All I can tell you is that watching that show, I wished to God I had been on one of those planes, asking only that we knew what only Flight 93 knew, and that was the fate that was waiting for us if we did nothing.

Because everybody dies. Even liberals. And all I can say is that I believe in my heart that I would rather die for something bigger than myself than lead a life where nothing is more important than me. I admit freely that were I actually there I might freeze up, and wet my pants, and hide behind a stewardess, because you can never really know until you are there. But my times on the highways late at night, and with the only engine silent at 9000 feet over the South Georgia pine forests and at 400 feet climbing out of Prescott Arizona on Christmas day reassure me, a little, that perhaps I might do okay. Just as well as a common person, a common American person in a crisis – that’s all I pray for.

Much has been said regarding how much more massive an event Katrina is relative to lower Manhattan. But the fact remains that firemen went up the stairs when people were coming down, and one ordinary group of people on an ordinary flight on an ordinary day defeated the very best that the global terror network could put together. Our ladies junior varsity squad whipped the living dookie out of their Super Bowl A-team over Pennsylvania that day, and they did it because for one brief shining moment enough passengers on that airplane went Grey.

And in Louisiana last week the governor cried and the mayor blamed everyone but himself, and half the country bought every single stinking Pink lie about global warming and missing National Guard units and blamed the sheepdogs while the wolves raped and pillaged and looted everything in sight.

Hundreds of New York firemen and policemen never came home, never came home, but New Orleans Police Chief P. Edwin Compass III said, of his men, “If I put you out on the street and made you get into gun battles all day with no place to urinate and no place to defecate, I don’t think you’d be too happy either… Our vehicles can’t get any gas. The water in the street is contaminated. My officers are walking around in wet shoes.”

Well, Chief, I’m sorry your men’s feet are wet, but getting their feet wet is part of their ^#*$%ing job. New York’s Finest aren’t complaining about wet feet or places to pee because they died doing their jobs. They were sheepdogs.

Here is a video of New Orleans finest helping themselves at WalMart.

So, on one hand, we have a very blue city – New York – confronted, out of the clear morning of a perfect fall day, with no warning – with a terror attack, and they march toward the sounds of screams and falling bodies and die by the hundreds. On the other hand, we have New Orleans law enforcement – also blue – whining about wet shoes and helping themselves to the happy period of lawlessness that followed an event that had been expected for no less than seventy-two hours.

In New York, we had a governor who got every available resource on the ground as fast as it could get there, and in Louisiana we have a governor who...cried. Governor, your job is to not cry. Your job is to be strong. We have plenty of civilians crying. You want to cry, cry in the car on the way home like everybody else did four years ago. Crying Governors, race-baiting mayors and looting police do not a Finest Hour make.

In New Orleans we have a mayor who left some 400-500 buses sitting fueled and underwater in the Ray Nagin Memorial Motor Pool saying that evil white conservative America was selling out his people within 24 hours of the catastrophe, from a safe and dry and adequately toileted location, while four years ago we had a Mayor who ran to the site of the disaster so quickly it is a full-blown miracle he was not killed when a building collapsed literally on top of his magnificent, combed-over head.

Now, much has been made of the fact that Ray Nagin is an incompetent, race-baiting black man, and Rudy Giuliani, who was neither, is white. Also, feminists are upset that people dare attack Governor Blanco because she is incompetent, weak, indecisive, and also a woman. And no doubt there are salivating long-haired, short-cortexed idiots just waiting for this to be over so they can sail into the comments section and tell me what a racist and misogynist I am.

Well, here’s the news flash: Nagin isn’t incompetent because he’s black. He’s incompetent because he’s incompetent. Condoleeza Rice is black. Colin Powell is black. Ted Kennedy, a man well-acquainted with rising water crises is as white as they come. Kennedy is incompetent; Rice and Powell are two of the most competent people on the planet.

This is about tribes, all right: not black and white tribes, but rather a battle between the capable and the culpable.

Same holds for Governor Blanco. She’s not weak because she’s a woman, or because she’s a Democrat. Truman was a democrat. The Buck stopped there. She’s weak and indecisive because that is the individual she is. I wish history could work with variables: I’d love to see what Margaret Thatcher would have done in such a case. It would not only have been better, it would have been good. That woman was tough. She could be Grey as granite. And, for this, the Pink Tribe despises her.

Now it may come as a shock to those foreign luminaries who come to lecture us on how an American city leveled by forces roughly equivelent to a nuclear explosion reduce it to something "like a third world country."

This difference being lost on them seems to be this: in an American city there is garbage on the streets and people wander around looking for food and water, AFTER BEING LEVELED BY A CAT 5 HURRICANE, which is the storm swell of the Dec. 2004 tsunami, plus winds, extending inland not for two or three miles but for two or three HUNDRED MILES. In a third world country, people living in stacks of garbage, searching for food and water happens EVERY STINKING DAY. That is the NORM.

It may come as a bit of a shock to these worldly sophisticates, who are so quick to point out how parochial and ignorant we simple folk are, that the United States of America has local, state and federal governments! And that this is the order in which crises are dealt with!

A person of some modest education might have remembered that the worship and adulation fostered after 9/11 was for the NYPD and the FDNY. No one was buying FEMA hats after 9/11, because FEMA is essentially a mop-up agency. It's the first responders, the local governments, that will determine if a city will live or die. The State -- that means, the "governor"-- has the sole authority to mobilize the National Guard, and the governor of the state of Louisana was not only slow to do that, she turned down NG assistance from several OTHER states as well. The President does not have the authority to drop precious egg salad sandwiches from Michael Moore's missing helicopters. We do this ON PURPOSE. We limit the power of the federal government, as those of us fortunate enough to have spent time in Civics, rather than Self Esteem classes, are aware. This is so that we do not develop a central power so strong that eventually we end up with idiot inbred royals, or Presidentes for life, on the face of OUR money.

Now, if the critics on the far left are saying that George W Bush needs more power, then by all means let's amend the Constitution before Hurricane season ends. Me, I'm agin' it. I think the man has enough to do, really, besides worry about how many water bottles need to be kept in the basement of the courthouse in Alachua county, Florida and take down the names of every potential bus driver in Torrance California, not to mention the name of every first responder in every town and county in every state of the Union. I've noticed they are not shy about criticizing his performance as President. That's legitimate, because that's his job. His job is not to tell the Mayor of New Orleans which buses need to be at which corners at what times and with what drivers to pick up which people and take them to which destinations. That's the mayor's job.

It's always such a pleasure to have Germans enlighten us on the best way to move large groups of sick, downtrodden people by rail. The only motivation I can ascribe to such behavior is that same one that propels young dim boys to tear the wings off flies.

Here is the Grey philosophy I try to live by:

Sometimes, Bad Things Happen. Some things are beyond my control, beyond the control of the smartest and best people we have, even beyond the awesome, subtle and unlimited control of the simpering, sub-human village idiot from Texas.

Hurricanes come. They have come for all of human history, and more are coming. Barbarians also come to steal or destroy what they cannot make themselves, and they, like human tempests, have swept a path of destruction through civilization since before history was written on clay tablets on the banks of the Euphrates.

I am not a wolf. I have never harmed a person in my life. But I am not a sheep, either. I know these forces are out there, and wishing it were not so will not only not make them go away – it will rob me of my chance to kick their arse when they show up.

I am a sheepdog - an amateur, stand-by sheepdog. Police officers and elected officials get paid to be sheepdogs. Sheepdogs don’t cry, and they don’t complain about wet feet, and they don’t wail about conspiracies while waiting for the help that they themselves are sworn to provide.

Also, unlike so many in the ‘reality-based’ community, I do not believe in a deity. For instance, I don’t believe that a single god-king can summon storms, hypnotize entire populations and be the focus for evil in the world. Many people refer to Iraq as George Bush’s war, a charge I find shockingly unfair -- to me. I voted for him in 2004, and I support that war in earnest. In future billboards, I would like to be mentioned as having Kids Die in George Bush and Bill Whittle’s War for Oil, and I expect the new crop of MoveOn bumper stickers to say DEFEND AMERICA: STOP BUSH AND WHITTLE. I’m tired of being left out of this. George Bush did not take over the White House with a six-shooter; people voted him into office with the biggest number of votes in American history. I’m one of those people, and damn you liberal cheapskate sons of *(&#$’s, I demand my equal time.

On the subject of disasters man-made and natural, one more thing from INSIDE 9/11 rings a powerful bell with me. At the very end, as Osama makes his way out of Afghanistan and into hiding, he tells an Al Jazeera reporter his motivations for the 9/11 attack. In his own words, to the friendly folks back home, he explains that his goal was to hurt America so badly that we would have no choice but to go after him and start the world-wide jihad that would result in him becoming the new Caliph, ruling from his recently completed palace outside Kandahar. He had seen much of the Pink tribe in his formative years, seen weakness and retreat in places like Somalia. He thought he had our number, but he made the mistake of having perhaps the least Pink individual in modern history in the White House when he made his move. He made a worse mistake in flying his murdering deathbots into a town that looked Pink, that was painted Pink from head to toe, but whose foundation was rock-solid granite Grey.

If I had gotten my 2000 voting wish and Al Gore had been president that day, would he have been Grey enough to knock that entire regime over and carry the fight to the rest of the region? Or would he have issued Stern Warnings and Worked With Our Allies and gotten the UN to Issue a Major Ultimatum?

I don’t know.

But I do know, that there, in his own words, the wolf said why he did what he did: he wanted to provoke War with the US, and would do whatever was necessary to accomplish it. And if we had not given him this war, he would have kept striking until he got what he was looking for. Nothing about US foreign policy, no word about injustice for the Palestinians or Evil Corporations or any of that. No, he said he wanted to start a war with the US. And so he has it. And he would have done whatever he had to do to get it.

And they will strike again, and those silent, dogged sheepdogs who have succeeded so many times in the dark silent hours will miss a scent somewhere, and more people will die and that's what we can expect. Not dying of Influenza or Black Death, not being steamrollered under Nazi jackboots or watching Mongol hordes swarming towards us over the horizon as we run for the city walls. None of that. Only this.

And when they come, storms man-made and natural, what will the sheepdog/sheep ratio be? Enough?

Now, when Pink Tribesmen say that these people can be reasoned with, they are doing what sheep do: living in denial.

Because to say we are responsible for the terrorists in the world is a way to say we can control this wolf. If we believe we made him, then that means we control him. We can unmake him. Such a worldview appeals to the left, because it gives them Godlike Mental Powers. All we have to do is act differently and he will go away. It’s complete moral cowardice, of course – but it’s understandable cowardice. It’s denial, because if all the sins are ours then all we must do is repent and the wolf will go away.

But that’s not what the wolf says. The wolf is not interested in what we do. He does not spare little lambs because they rub up against his leg and make cooing sounds. The wolf wants to swallow us whole. He wants the fight. He wants the war and the conflict. And he will keep on huffing and puffing until one of three things happen: We show him our throat, for him to rip out; or we convert to Islam and become part of his Caliphate; or we head out into the forest with a shotgun and blow his #%$ing head off.

I made my decision by about 9:30 eastern on September 11th, 2001. I have never regretted it.

It takes courage to fight oncoming storms. Courage.

Courage isn’t free. It is taught, taught by certain tribes who have been around enough and seen enough incoming storms to know what one looks like. And I think the people of this nation, and those of New Orleans, specifically, desire and deserve some fundamental lessons in courage.

Because we are going to need it.

(Well, after about 650 comments, I have decided to close the comments section, for two reasons: First, I am hearing of people who come to read the essay, looked at how narrow the scroll bar was, and left before realizing that 95 percent of what they were downloading was comment. Second, I no longer have the time to continue writing e-mails in response to very wonderful people who ask why they have been "blacklisted" when all they wanted to do was say a kind word. The fact is, my anti-spam software is just clogged so badly now that I had two of my own comments rejected. Unfortunately, without it, I get about 5-6 HUNDRED spams a day in the various comment streams, all of which are vile and all of which end up in my personal mailbox.

So thank you all for the absolute torrent of kind words -- it's just been overwhelming. You can, of course, continue to reach me at Bill at Ejectejecteject dot com.)

Writers block...

my eye. This was great. Nothing more can be said.

Wow!

I'm not quite sure where you get the idea you have writer's block--or where your comments end and those of Bill(?) begin, but it's an excellent piece.

I was intrigued by the metaphor of the sheep, the wolves, and the sheepdogs. Although I must count myself among the sheep (as not being violent nor capable of defending myself physically from the wolves), I have great respect for the sheepdogs willing to put their lives on the line for my sake. When given the chance to do so, I wave at them, or thank them personally for their service.

Likewise with the Tribes, of which I count myself generally Grey (I earn my living doing tech support, and most of my acquaintances are actual rocket scientists and others working to enable the settlement of space) even though I grew up in a relatively Pink family.

You may want to check out http://www.non-normie.com for another take on the tribes and the sheep, and how to recognize and deal with the wolves (and the wolves in sheeps' clothing).

I don't know, maybe I'm a bit of a sheepdog myself, since I keep thinking if only I could enlist. But I'm 55, half-deaf, and sadly out of shape--assuming there'd even be a place for a woman like me. But I can support the troops in other ways, and I do.

I guess my point is that not all sheep are in denial.

Keep up the good work.

Leftist vs. Right-wing Terrorists

Leftists in America as a majority like to paint themselves as pacifists and anti-war. With only a casual glance this self delusion is exposed for the double standard it is. From their rowdy, riotous protests to their hateful rhetoric their true colors come shining through every time.

I am a conservative Christian, often known as a right winger. I will not hesitate to kick your a_s or kill you if you directly & immediately threaten my life or the lives of my loved ones. Trust me, I would much rather have a barbeque with my friends or go camping but I will defend myself and my own none-the-less.

Harsh? Maybe to some but hey, at least I am honest.

“Acceptance of a double standard has always been a sign of inferiority. To let someone behave according to one set of principles or values while demanding that you be subjected to others is to validate a claim of superiority that justifies the inconsistent and unfair behavior. A double standard can also reflect incoherent thinking, a failure to apply consistently a principle that presumably has universal validity.”

I plan on researching much deeper into this treasure trove of information. However, for the sake of brevity let’s just take the raw data from the “Leftist” and the “Right-Wing Conservative” Group Classifications.

433 “Leftist” group incidents
And
127 “Right-Wing Conservative” group incidents

Most will agree that the “Communist/Socialist” group can be included with the “Leftist” group. Let’s group the “Right-Wing Reactionary” groups in with the “Right-Wing Conservative” group even though a few of the groups are Islamic.

The same goes for the Nationalist/Separatist group and the Religious group. Those groups are not applicable to the Christian, capitalist conservatives the left loves to hate. As a matter of fact, we see the left generally embracing or at least sympathizing with the radical Muslim right.

An enemy of my enemy is a friend of mine correct?

433 “Leftist” groups + 3749 “Communist/Socialist” group incidents = 4182
And
127 “Right-Wing Conservative” groups + 14 “Right-Wing Reactionary” group incidents = 141

Peace activists, pacifists & anti-war protestors?

Maybe if you are real good at lying to yourself and everyone else.

Socialistparty.org.uk Analysis & Opinion

Karl Marx wrote the master plan on how to save all of humanity, if you believe what the majority of the “progressive”, liberal left has to say. In a perfect world maybe it is. Without the greed which is inherent to all humans, socialism just might work. If every person who ever acquires power wields it honorably, maybe socialism could work.

Those are a lot of “if’s” and “maybe’s” and I am not willing to trade America for them. With the use of a little bit of common sense, critical thinking and recognition of reality, I wouldn’t even trade my car.

Since the 1960s’ radical, drug warped, anti-war/hate-America leftist movement, everywhere we look, we see and hear the left proclaiming how evil capitalism is and a wholesale hatred of America and western traditions in general.

Many of those 60’s radicals are now serving in congress or other positions in the government. Some are working as lawyers in the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) or ACLU. Still, many others are radical professors at many of America’s institutes of “higher learning” and various other leftist organizations.

There seems to be no socialists who will claim that any government currently is or has ever been truly socialist. It’s never quite right. This is not because no nation’s people or dictators have tried it. History has had plenty of Castro’s, Bolsheviks’ and Mao’s. The reason is directly tied to the inherent flaws in the structure of the proposed utopian economic system. Human nature prevents its employment in its purest well intended form. Regardless, Einstein is attributed as stating that Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Let’s take a look at Hanna Sell’s description of socialism from Socialistparty.org.uk.

There are no countries where this (a socialist economy) takes place today.

It is not possible to create genuine socialism in one country on its own, although a genuine socialist government could initially achieve a great deal, whilst campaigning for socialism worldwide.

A genuine socialist government would appeal to the workers and oppressed of the world to win support for a socialist transformation of society in their own countries, and its example would inspire the working class and oppressed all round the world.

“It's impossible to create socialism in one country, surrounded by a world capitalist market. “

Hannah explains that capitalism is:

“Based on the private ownership of the productive forces (factories, offices, science and technique) Billionaire capitalists own vast companies, banks (and much of the land as well.) Elected governments are bent to their will.”

“It is often argued that socialists simply want to share out the wealth. This, it is asserted, would only mean increased misery for the rich - as the wealth would not be enough to obliterate poverty. But we are not interested in merely doing this.”

“Of course, it would be nice to take some of Bill Gates' $36 billion (£24 billion), but in order for socialism to work it would be necessary to do much more than that.”

This is a socialist declaring outright that her social/economic/political view includes theft from those who have earned their keep. Regardless of the amount, no matter how noble you hold your views to be, theft is wrong.

There seems to be a missing link in socialism. The redistribution of wealth appears to be part of the mission of the socialist movement. The only problem is that, socialism, to be implemented seems to need the head of steam produced by a capitalist economy. Is socialism a sort of leaching or parasitic disease?

Hugo Chavez’s popularity among the poor in Venezuela and other South American countries appears to be an adoration born of his giving. Is his behavior comparable to a drug dealer hooking you up for the first few deals and then clamping down once you are addicted? He is accused of supporting the leftist FARC guerrillas of Colombia who are known to run their terrorist organization off of drug sales. How long can the free giving last?

Mr. Chavez states that the 200 year (heavy) oil reserve his country is sitting on is not the sole base of his socialist Bolivarian Revolutionary Movement. He states the oil he is “trading” with does not come free to the nations he is supplying it to. Regardless, it seems that he is buying his popularity while silently and steadily imposing the iron fist of a leftist dictator. I digress, more on that in another essay.

Socialism is a society where we could democratically plan how we use the world's resources. Hannah explains how:

This would mean bringing all the big corporations, controlling around 80% of the British economy, into democratic public ownership, under democratic working-class control.

Ordinary working class people - the vast majority of society - would then collectively own and control the wealth producing resources and would draw up a plan for their best use.

A socialist society would put people's needs and interests, immediate and long-term, before profit. Hannah explains what this would mean below.

Who is going to coordinate these town-hall style votes to collectively control the economy? A socialist economy will still require elected officials who will ultimately have the final say-so in this ownership and control. A socialist government’s control will consist of substantially more power than our current freedom ensuring constitutional governmental structure posses today. No socialist official will be infallible or incorruptible. I believe this may be the majority of what escapes the comprehension of those on the left. Socialism sounds great but it puts too much power into the hands of a few elites.

If you ever get the chance watch the documentary “Uncle Saddam” do so, I picked it up at Blockbuster Video. Please note that I am not implying that Saddam was a socialist.

In numerous clips Saddam sounds genuinely concerned about his people. He sounds and looks like he really cared. He sounds so sincere that I think he actually believed himself. He sounds just as sincere as the criminals on Cops who cry so convincingly, “I swear to God officer, I don’t have no drugs” just before a bag of crack slips down their pant leg.

Most semi-informed Americans understand that, just like individuals in the Republican Party, individuals in the Democratic Party are corruptible. America with its current capitalist economy and current constitution does not allow the power of the entirety of the economy to reside in the hands of a few governmental elites, as the leftists in the Democrat Party would have it. Are we to rely on fallible human beings to wield that much power?

Humans do not generally do the right thing by nature; most of us must learn to do the right thing. What is considered the right thing varies from individual to individual and society to society. A republic form of government with its complimentary capitalist economy maintains the checks and balances which keep us all free.

WARNING: Our constitution is not a living breathing CHANGEABLE constitution. The Democrat Party is attempting to convince us otherwise. Our constitution is the reason America currently holds the record for the longest standing most stable form of government in all of human history and in all of the world. America enjoys a republic form of government. Hence the political parties: Republican and Democrat(ic).

From the Socialist Party USA website:

Under capitalist and "Communist" states, people have little control over fundamental areas of their lives. The capitalist system forces workers to sell their abilities and skills to the few who own the workplaces, profit from these workers' labor, and use the government to maintain their privileged position.

This paragraph supports the observance that the power a government derives from a socialist economy corrupts ultimately. It is well known that societies who swing too far left into socialism eventually become communist. They don’t recover. Polonium cocktail anyone?

Keep in mind what Einstein said about insanity and the relation of that statement to those on the left who are pursuing this form of economy and apparently society.

Also keep in mind the majority of what the left proposes and hold dear as common morals and values are precisely what Gramsci (among others) prescribed as being necessary to tear down the western Christian morals and values which stand in the way of the implementation of socialism.

Hanna:

The Socialist Party is profoundly optimistic about the prospects of achieving socialism throughout the world today.

Socialism has never been more achievable, because, as Marx once explained, capitalism creates its own gravediggers.

Karl Marx postulates that because of the apparent inherent jealous nature of some have not’s (workers?), the workers will rise up and overthrow the haves (capitalist companies etc.). This assumption also infers that those who are in the positions of power (CEO’s etc.) are unworthy of those positions regardless of the personal finances, education and long hours spent building their company dream.

The left makes it seem like I, in making only $36,000 per year should be disgruntled to the point of desiring the overthrow of my (for profit) employers. Personally, I thank God that I have a decent paying job and see it as my responsibility to continue to prove my work capabilities and my value to my employer and further educate myself to eventually obtain a position with more responsibility and therefore, more pay. Barring those who continuously make the wrong decisions in life to prevent them from achieving financial success, every American has the ability to live comfortably financially in America.

Eliminating arms spending:

The US has promised to rebuild Afghanistan after bombing it to smithereens. Yet the $297 million (£200 million) it has pledged in 2002 is equal to just seven hours of US defence spending!

Arms spending has accounted for $1 trillion a year world-wide since the end of the cold war. This alone could provide $1,000 a year for every family on the planet. Just 25% of the cost of president George W Bush's Star Wars programme would provide clean drinking water for the billion people who are currently without it.

No defense, no country. Does that click? Of course not because, in Hanna and the left in general dreamy utopian world, there will be one global socialist party. Everyone will love each other and elephants will fly.

I as most on the right, subscribe to the faith of Jesus Christ bringing peace to the earth. That dream has not been disproved time and time again.

Sharing out work

Even at the end of the economic boom in the late 1990s there were still 35 million unemployed in the European Union. At the same time, those in work are working longer hours than ever before. This is madness: a socialist government would immediately share out the work.

In addition, it would use modern technology to limit the number of hours it was necessary to work. A socialist government could immediately introduce a maximum 35-hour week, with no loss of pay. Capitalism's remorseless drive for profit means that new technology has been used, not to shorten the working week, but to throw workers on the scrap heap.

I have worked as a ditch digger, hamburger flipper, municipal pump (poop) technician, pool boy, bank teller, SBA/R&D Loan processor, in US Naval intelligence etc. I have common sense enough to understand that the physical and or mental demands of your job, the hours you work, task deadlines, your education, work reputation, personal presentation and CHOICE IN EMPLOYMENT are all factors to either be pondered by the individual job seeker or will be based on their education or skill level. Both factors are the individual’s responsibility.

I also know that Bob, a man I worked with in the municipal pump industry was a genuinely good individual. However, he does not have the education nor the ambition to pursue the education required to improve his financial condition. That’s Bob’s responsibility, not mine, not yours not anyone else’s, just Bob’s.

A socialist government would harness technology to lower the number of hours people have to work. This would give working-class people more time to participate in running society. Combined with a massive programme of socially necessary projects - such as increasing the numbers of teachers, doctors and nurses - unemployment could be eliminated.

This paragraph, without meaning to sound facetious sounds like a fantasy fairy tale from a little girl’s diary. This as does the socialist dream, once again goes against human nature.

Terms explained by Hanna Sell:

"Left-wing" and "right-wing"

Parties and governments which are called Socialist are also often termed "Left" parties or governments, or "left-wing."

"Left-wing" means "influenced by socialist ideas" or promoting public welfare or the well being of ordinary people.

Governments of the conservatives, republicans, or nationalists, are called "right-wing."

Right-wing means supporting rich, capitalist, big business interests against the interests of the poor.

Please make a note of Hanna Sell’s proclamation that the left in general are those who embrace socialism, not the right.

Despite the self righteous attitude of those on the left their struggle is not comparable to the philosophical idea of Democracy in Greece or even the great struggle of the French Revolution. Socialism IS NOT the struggle of freedom for all, it is the struggle of those who will not provide for themselves. They are the defeatists and pessimists. Those who say they can’t instead of they can. They are the excuse makers, not the self makers. Socialism is the idea embraced by the jealous and the lazy of this world, those without the ambition to educate themselves or excel in the job market thereby furthering their lives.

There are too many people of every race, religion and sexual orientation who have excelled in this nation to use the old worn out disenfranchised excuse. I have lived in far too many cities and know far too many people who have drug themselves out of poverty to believe that there are certain groups who are being kept down by anyone other than themselves and own defeatist attitudes and the “give me more” and “you owe us” attitudes of their “leaders”.

I served 10 years as an enlisted man in the US Navy not because I was born in a poor working class family and I had to do so. I did so out of pride for my nation and my own adventurous spirit. I cannot recall a single individual stationed onboard my ship nor the marines frequently embarked who would claim otherwise. My family is far from poor.

Fidel Castro is often embraced by many (most?) on the left as a great savior of the people of Cuba. Many apologists still find reason to blame America for Castro’s turn to communist Russia. Regardless, my ship was directed to operate off of the coast of Cuba for one and a half months during the Cuban refugee crisis.

We were rescuing refugees as they fled the right wing capitalist dictator of Cuba and the deplorable conditions there.

No I’m sorry, I got that wrong.

They were fleeing the left wing socialist dictator of Cuba and the deplorable conditions created there by the implementation of socialism.

TAG

I have been tagged by numerous people to whom I must apologize. I have taken on quite a few new roles here at work and I don’t have internet at home. So I don’t have much time to blog anymore.

So… yeah, add it up and… I’m not saying anymore to protect the innocent (namely me) in case my boss is reading this. May God keep him healthy at all times! (You rock Jim!)

So, I'm told the rules are:

"Each player of this game starts with the 6 weird (unique?) things about you. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments and tell them to read your blog."

  1. Upon close and deep observation, my right nostril is larger than my left.
  2. Like Josue I love traveling. During my service in the Navy I have had the pleasure of visiting (sometimes pleasure, sometimes not): Spain, France, Italy, Bosnia, Turkey, Romania, Somalia, Puerto Rico, GITMO (Guantanamo, Cuba), Haiti, Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Ghana, Togo, Ivory Coast and many training & liberty ports up and down the east coast. I have been to 46 of the 50 states.
  3. I am 35 years old and still believe that, while mountain biking: “if you don’t fall at least once per ride, you are not riding hard enough.”
  4. I love bonsai… I have 3 plants right now, two of which I propagated.
  5. Apparently, I am a glutton for punishment. In an attempt to understand the liberal species, I take monumental amounts of abuse on various leftist, liberal and progressive blogs internet-wide.
  6. Hmmm… unique… Ah… I can’t stand watching football, basketball or any other “mainstream” sports but I love the X-Games and Gravity games. I played football in high school and wrestled but I guess after years of martial arts, skiing and BMX and now Mountain biking I could be considered a fan of “extreme” sports.

Hateful Rhetoric

I am reading a great book right now, have been for quite a while. It seems like I can’t get enough of it. It is kind of a love story about this one guy who sacrificed everything for those he loved. This is part of a letter written by one of his students…

Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, and it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never fails.

If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophesy partially, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things. At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Pretty hateful isn’t it?

KKK Enjoying an Alarmingly Higher Membership Rate

I predicted that the extreme right would have rise up to counter the extreme left…

God save us I was correct. I didn’t consider who it would be though…

Scumbag leftist liberals, GO BACK HOME TO RUSSIA! You are to blame for this:

I just heard a news report that the KKK is enjoying an alarmingly higher membership rate.

More to follow I am sure.

Secularism and Empathy

Christians, on the subject of empathy & atheism, claim that animals don’t empathize. They are wrong.

Animals empathize but they do so out of convenience, for survival. They care for one another as long as the individual, to whom the empathy is directed, is a useful productive member of the group. What happens when the individual is no longer a productive member? They are often turned on and always discarded. They are no longer needed so the empathy turns to the cold hard fact of the natural world which is survival of the fittest.

Christians are not pro-abortion nor are they pro-euthanasia for the elderly. Those who do adhere to those ideals are not Christians. They are more often than not (but not always) atheists.

What is it that exists in most humans that allow some of us to continue to feel empathy for individuals who are often not even a member of our family?

If atheists insist that we are animals, and their empathetic feelings can change with the weather, why would we want to have anything to do with them other than gentle attempts to open their eyes to the peace of Jesus?

Conservative Fascism

I have read that those on the left refer to those of us on the right as fascists.

My previously limited knowledge of fascism was probably on par with the current majority of Americans’ understanding. Hitler and Mussolini are the first two names that come to my mind. In good conscience I have researched various definitions of fascism and the generally accepted definitions include nationalism above the consideration of the people who comprise that nation, the elevation of one race or gender above others, anti-communism and anti-socialism.

Some of the various articles, book excerpts, encyclopedias and essays I read implied that anti-communism and anti-socialism by themselves define fascism. This definition is highly disputed and is not accepted in most credible academic circles as being sufficient to define an individual’s view as being fascist. There must be other components inclusive to the individual’s political/social views to justify categorizing their views as fascist.

There are over 50 Democratic members of congress who are members of the Progressive Caucus which is tied directly to the Democratic Socialists of America or DSA. It’s no secret that democrats, liberals, progressives and the left in general are socialists and adhere to socialist ideas. They are furthering their Marxist agenda as translated from an economic structure to a social structure. Multiculturalism, the ACLU, the NLG and a myriad of other social “conscious” programs are ultimately the embodiment of Gramsci’s “Long march through the culture” which is advancing Marxism. (Please see Communism is Alive and Active in America.)

It is also no secret that with the exception of the Islamists, the overwhelming majority of violent riots, attacks on innocents and general misbehavior are perpetrated by the left. Compare the lefts unruly protests in Washington this weekend and the recent peaceful Pro-life marches a few weeks back.

We frequently see on behalf of the left, the defense of and often sympathy for, individuals such as Fidel Castro (socialist), The Bolsheviks (socialists), Hugo Chavez (socialist) and the communist take over of South Vietnam by the communist Soviet influenced north.

I don’t want anyone to forget the very ugly instance indeed, of the left’s convoluted, propaganda driven, condemnation of the US’s removal of Mohammed Mossadegh in Iran for no other reason than that, he was a secular socialist, like them. According to the left Mohammed Mossadegh was elected as the prime minister of Iran in the early 1950s. Mossadegh was never elected by the Iranian people. He was actually placed in the position of prime minister by the parliament in Iran. The CIA, after socialist secular Mossadegh’s dismissal of civil liberties, stepped in, instigated a coup and helped the Shah regain power.

We now see resistance from the left against the battle in Iraq for no other reason than that they are opposed to the implementation of the republic form of government that America currently is. The more republics there are in the world, the harder it will be for the socialists. I believe this is due also in part, to good old fashioned political jealousy; they don’t want Republicans to look good. You will often see the left claim that conservatives are anti-democracy… in the strictest definition of that word, we are. However, we are pro-republic which is precisely what America happens to be.

Who are the “peace activists”? They are knowingly or unknowingly attempting to prevent the spread of “democracy” in their effort to maintain the grip of or to further socialism. Why is the majority of the world against America? Because a majority of the world has caved into the violent brutal force of socialism.

Much of what the un-informed street level liberal embraces is fed to them as propaganda by their handlers. They see it as truth unaware of the revisionism at play.

It is well established without question that the left is indeed, comprised of socialists.

The premier attribute of the word fascist is that it is considered a slur. Individuals on the left, in calling us fascists are doing so not only ignorantly but contemptuously. It is equivocal to calling a homosexual a f_gg_t or a black person a n___er. They label us fascists to be hateful where the right labels the left as socialists because they are indeed socialists. They call us fascists not because they are educated in the definition of fascism and we fit that definition but they do so out of hate and in an attempt to discredit our voice, to suppress our freedom of speech.

Further into my research I discovered that the feminist movement has been associated with fascism. Feminism has become a struggle of the elevation of women above men. I believe that we can all admit that the fringe (?) of the feminist movement most certainly maintains an unhealthy disdain towards the male gender and embrace the belief that women are not only equal to men but superior. The feminist movement is not associated with the right, it is associated with the left.

The civil rights movement has succeeded and I say thank you Lord Jesus! Thank you Lord that all citizens living in America, if they have avoided or overcome their bad decisions in life that can impede success and, if they posses the intelligence, self-sought-knowledge and ambition to succeed they can do so.

With that said, what is the purpose of today’s civil rights groups? Are they rebels without a clue? I believe that indeed, they are. Many of them also teeter on the edge of being fascists. In their attempts to elevate their represented race or sexual preference above that of, predominantly the white Christian, they are guilty of attempting to facilitate and impose ethnic/sexual preference superiority.

Homosexuality is unnatural although, homosexuals have no problems getting good paying jobs here in America. As for the obvious distain projected by some people towards them, you can’t MAKE everyone like you.

Nowhere in America is there a white Christian conservative college fund. There are no straight conservative awareness days. There shouldn’t have to be but the left has made the playing field mighty biased. They are acting mighty fascist.

Nowhere in any of my writings nor those of my friends here at Townhall.com will you find any declaration of racial or social position exclusive superiority. If you can find that, get back to me and I will condemn it right along with you.

Are there those on the fringe right who can be labeled as fascists? Of course. Are any of them in congress? No.

Is there a division in America? Yes. Can we end the division? Not as long as the left continues its attack on our conservative constitution. Americans, if we don’t stand up and FIGHT the socialist left NOW, we will be the minority fighting for freedom under MUCH worse conditions.

The Rant

I want to remind you all of this:

Take a drive across America and you will see that many of the oldest buildings in America are not law offices or news agencies or social rights councils, believe it or not they are not sexually depraved gay bars and clubs either, they are Christian Churches.

Tolerate it or leave it. This is America’s culture and the left is pushing anti-American culture. The left in its fight for everything except the traditional America family is pushing those of us who do embrace the American ideal to extreme anger. I believe that nobody can make you do anything, we all make our own decisions. However, we are in danger of becoming extremists due to the lefts interference with and ruination of our country. They are practicing that which they declare themselves to be against.

If you don’t like American family values then move somewhere else. The Macavelian obedience techniques being used, that we have been trained to obey, has controlled us long enough. The threat of being labeled politically in-correct must be fought. The fear of being labeled as such, which breeds the attitude of “I believe in nothing and am tolerant of everything” must be stopped. American males specifically need to grow a set and stand for America, not Carl Marx. The RINO’s must be removed from congress.

I believe that I may now, in good conscience firmly declare that I am not a fascist. I am indeed an American Christian Conservative and proud of it. But, don’t you dare forget this is a nation built on Christian morals, values and ethics.

Who Cares?

Liberals, Conservatives and the giving of precious time and hard earned money...

I just wanted to toss out a reminder about who actually gives more money and time to help those who are less fortunate in America.

Who Gives and Who Doesn't?

It turns out that this idea that liberals give more…is a myth. Of the top 25 states where people give an above average percent of their income, 24 were red states in the last presidential election.

Charity's Political Divide

In Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism (Basic Books), Arthur C. Brooks finds that religious conservatives are far more charitable than secular liberals…

CULTURE DIGEST: Conservatives give more than liberals, study says; NBC cuts back on editing ‘VeggieTales’

Although [liberals] usually give less to charity, they have nevertheless lambasted conservatives for their [supposed] callousness in the face of social injustice.

Guess this goes to show that liberals really do care. They care so much that they want to use our money to show us all how much they care.

Progressives, liberals, leftists or whatever you happen to call yourselves this week.

This fact yanks the rug out from under you on the premier subject of your proclamation of moral superiority.

We’ve got you in the crosshairs with one fact after another.

Zawahri: "jihad" in Somalia

From Jihad Watch and ABC News:

Yesterday al Qaeda's No. 2 leader, Ayman al Zawahri, issued an audiotape statement urging Muslims to join the fight for "jihad" in Somalia.

Guess that’s America’s fault too right? Just like Iraq.
